The country house was built in 1836-48 for Lords Newborough, it was designed by architect Edward Haycock but was heavily damaged by fire so had to be rebuilt at the back end of the 19th century. It is an impressive Neo-Classical building that is complemented by large landscaped green areas. Origins predate a c1600 rebuilding and there was a second rebuilding in 1751; in 1812 it was described as a 'moderate-sized brick mansion'.
